Workout Log (10/17/08)

Today, I did:

  • 5 x 3 Squats @ 185 lbs.
  • 5 x 3 Bench Press @ 215 lbs.
  • 1 x 5 Deadlift @ 205 lbs.

The workout felt decent overall, this is only my third workout going full-body, a big change from my old way of working out (splits). I dropped a considerable amount of weight on the squats and plan to work back up, as I want to be 100% sure that my form is strong before I continue.

Bench is my strongest lift as of right now, I am looking forward to getting to 225 lbs. though, as I really want to be able bench two 45’s on each side. To do that, I’m tweaking my form to be a bit more efficient (thanks to Starting Strength), and also working in press on alternating days to strengthen up my deltoids.

My progress on deadlift has slowed a bit. I’m thinking about changing to alternating grip, as I am beginning to experience trouble gripping the bar (grip strength is the primary limiting factor in the deadlift).

I know that as right now, the order of weights that I’m lifting is totally off. Deadlift should be higher than squat, which in turn should be higher than bench. It’s the opposite in my current setup, and that just shows how far I have to go in deadlift and squat.
